3 Best Sci-Fi Horror Movies To Watch On Amazon Prime Video In March
Science-fiction and horror are natural complements to each other.
Both tend to focus on the unknown and unexplored, and there are a lot of frightening things hidden just beyond our understanding. What’s easy to understand is that Prime Video has a ton of great sci-fi horror movies. Here are three of the best, all streaming on Amazon Prime Video throughout March.
Life (2017)
The basic description of Life might sound like any number of other post-Alien sci-fi horror movies; A small crew isolated on a space station encounters alien life that turns out to be hostile. However, Life isn’t just some standard genre flick. It’s great because the cast is wonderful, the special effects are solid, and the claustrophobic tension of the story is phenomenal. Life might be formulaic, but it’s a prime example of why the formula works so well.
Phantasm (1979)
Phantasm is weird in the best way. Most people know the movie thanks to the iconic flying chrome orb (a Sentinel Sphere if you’re a horror nerd like me) that drills into people’s faces and drains their blood. But there’s a lot more to it than just that. There are the mysterious dwarfs (aka Lurkers), the supremely creepy Tall Man (played by Angus Scrimm), and a sinister plot originating from an alien world. At the center of the story are two brothers and their friend Reggie who try to make sense of it all before they become the Tall Man’s next victims.
The Invisible Man (2020)
The Invisible Man is a superb update to the classic science-fiction horror tale made popular on film by Universal. This modern version of the story follows a woman, Cecilia (Elisabeth Moss), who attempts to escape an abusive relationship with a tech mogul named Adrian Griffin (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). Adrian is reported to be dead, but inexplicable events prompt Cecilia to believe that her abuser is still tormenting her. The Invisible Man is one of the most harrowing sci-fi thrillers of the 2020s.
