Former Columbia County building inspector charged with misconduct
GREENPORT, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State Police arrested a Catskill man on Friday in connection to a misconduct investigation. Cory Birk, 38, is facing several charges.
According to State Police, Birk formerly worked as the town of Greenport's Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer from March 2022 through April 2024. Detectives determined that between January and March 2024, Birk allegedly accepted cash payments from multiple businesses for fire inspections that were kept off of official records.
Birk was taken into custody on March 7 and was charged with four counts of official misconduct and four counts of petit larceny. He was released after being arraigned and is scheduled to appear in Greenport Town Court on March 31.
