Tottenham scout midfield prodigy who could be for sale this summer
Tottenham Hotspur are closely watching the development of an EFL starlet who could be available for sale in the summer under one condition.
Will Spurs continue shopping in the Championship?
We have seen Spurs secure a number of talented young players from the Championship over recent years, including the likes of Archie Gray, Ashely Phillips and Djed Spence.
It has been suggested that the Lilywhites could turn to the English football second tier once again in the summer to secure the services of a young midfield talent, who is being tipped for big things over the coming years.
The player in question is Sunderland midfielder, Jobe Bellingham, brother of Real Madrid star Jude, who has been winning many admirers since swapping Birmingham City for the Stadium of Light two years ago.
Former Tottenham scout reveals Jobe Bellingham interest
Mick Brown, who previously worked as a scout at the North London club and remains well connected at Hotspur Way, has revealed that the Lilywhites and Crystal Palace have both been watching the 19-year-old’s performances closely this season.
Brown explained that if the Black Cats fail to win promotion to the top flight this season, they would be forced to listen to offers for the England Under-21 international.
When asked about Bellingham’s future, he told Football Insider: “I think Sunderland would let him go if they got a good price for him. Especially if they don’t get promoted this season, they’re going to listen to offers.
“It feels to me like they’re short of a couple of real top-class players. You’ve got the goalkeeper who’s not bad, he’s promising, then you get Rigg who’s the same.
“Then you’ve got Bellingham, and there have been questions about whether he’s good enough to make that step up at this point. Crystal Palace and Tottenham have had scouts watching him this season so they’ll be two of the teams in the running if he is going to leave.
“So it’ll be up to them to assess whether he’s ready to make that jump. From a Sunderland point of view, knowing the way the owners want to operate, I think if they get a huge bid for him then they’ll let him go.”
Jobe Bellingham would be a typical Tottenham target
It is no secret that under Johan Lange and Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham have prioritised signing talented teenagers with a high ceiling with the hope that they can develop them into finished products.
Spurs can make a persuasive case to the Sunderland man that he would get opportunities to play at N17, given the number of minutes the likes of Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, and Mikey Moore have got this season.
