Saratoga Springs firefighters to compete in hockey game for childhood cancer
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Saratoga Springs Professional Firefighters will face off against the Worcester Fire Department in a benefit hockey game in March. Proceeds from the Conquering Kids Cancer match, which will take place on March 16, will go towards the St. Baldrick's Foundation.
The St. Baldrick's Foundation is an international organization dedicated to finding a cure for childhood cancers and supporting children currently undergoing cancer treatment, as well as their families. Achieved through various fundraising events, the charity ensures proper funding for cancer research, provides monetary support for cancer treatment and other supplemental assistance.
In an effort to raise funds for this mission, the Saratoga Springs Professional Firefighters I.A.F.F. Local 343 sponsored hockey team, known as Saratoga Springs Fire Hockey, will compete against the Worcester Firefighters Hockey Team from Massachusetts at the Saratoga Springs Ice Rink. Admission to the game will be a donation collected upon entry.
In addition to the funds collected for admission, the Saratoga Springs Fire Hockey team will wear St. Patrick's Day theme jerseys as part of a "Jersey Off Our Backs" silent auction that will run during the game. All money from this auction will benefit the St. Baldrick's Foundation.
The Saratoga Springs Ice Rink is located at 30 Weibel Avenue in Saratoga Springs. The hockey game will begin at 11 a.m., with doors opening at 10 a.m.
