Westbound I-70 to drop to one lane until the end of 2025 in Topeka
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Workers are set to begin a new construction project on I-70 in the Topeka area which will bring the major highway down to one lane for some travelers.
27 News checked with KanDrive.gov, a website used by the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) to help notify the public about current road conditions and construction projects, on Saturday, Feb. 15 to learn more about an upcoming road work project on I-70. Workers are due to bring I-70 westbound down to a single lane between Highway 40 and Highway 75.
The project is set to start at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19 and is expected to last until Dec. 19 this year, according to KanDrive.gov. KDOT will bring the highway down to a single lane heading west to allow for construction work to take place on an adjacent road.
KDOT and Bettis Koch Construction are working on the $239 million Polk-Quincy Viaduct project in Topeka this year. Topeka Boulevard beneath I-70 is currently the site of major construction work that is slated to last until the end of 2025. You can learn more about the project by clicking here.
