Schenectady Light Opera Company announces 2025-2026 season
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Schenectady Light Opera House (SLOC) announced its 99th season on Friday. The 2025-2026 run will begin in September.
The nonprofit community musical theater and performing arts center, located in downtown Schenectady, will kick off its upcoming season on Sept. 12 with "Dreamgirls." The production is based on the show business behind an all-girl Motown trio, inspired by real-life acts like The Shirelles, The Supremes and James Brown. The show will run through Sept. 21 and will be directed by Imani McCalmon.
SLOC will proceed with "Hadestown: Teen Edition." A telling of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, the show will open on Nov. 7 and run through Nov. 16. It will be directed by Elizabeth Sherwood-Mack.
In January, the theater will perform "The Mystery of Edwin Drood," based on the unfinished Charles Dickins novel of the same name. The show, directed by Brian Clemente, will run from Jan. 16, 2026 through Jan. 25, 2026.
SLOC will also perform "Man of La Mancha." The musical is an adaptation of the 1959 teleplay "I, Don Quixote" by Dale Wasserman, which was inspired by Miguel de Cervantes's 17th-century novel, "Don Quixote." The performance will begin on March 13, 2026 and continue through March 22, 2026, directed by Amy Sarah Lamena.
The theater will wrap up its 99th season with "Green Day's American Idiot." The rock musical centers around three discontented young men and is based on the concept album of the same name by the band Green Day. The show will run from May 8, 2026 through May 17, 2026 and will be directed by Sean Baldwin.
Subscriptions for SLOC's Season 99 will become available in late March with individual tickets going on sale in August. The theater is also currently selling tickets for its current season's upcoming shows, "Peter and the Starcatcher" in March and "Pippin" in May.
