Donald Trump finally reveals what the mystery drones hovering over US were
President Donald Trump has revealed what the mysterious drones at times referred to as UFOs flying over New Jersey were.
The objects were spotted on a daily basis for weeks hovering over the northeast including Morris County which is just north of Trump national Golf Club in Bedminster.
Many theories have been floated on the what the unidentified objects were, with some speculating they could be a threat to national security.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday read Trump’s statement on the drones during her first media briefing.
‘After research and study, the drones that were flying over New Jersey in large numbers were authorized to be flown by the FAA for research and various other reasons,’ she relayed, referring to the Federal Aviation Administration.
‘Many of these drones were also hobbyists, recreational and private individuals that enjoy flying drones. In time, it got worse due to curiosity. This was not the enemy.’
Leavitt did not elaborate on what type of research the drones were conducting.
The objects in the eastern US prompted the FAA in late December to temporarily ban drone flights in 22 sections of New Jersey and 30 areas of New York.
Last month, Trump accused then-President Joe Biden of withholding information and called on the public to ‘shoot down’ the drones if the federal government could not say who they were being operated by.
‘They know where it came from and where it went, and for some reason they don’t want to comment,’ Trump said of the Biden administration at the time.
‘I can’t imagine it’s the enemy, because if it was the enemy, they’d blast it.’
Some lawmakers have not been convinced that the drones are harmless.
Then-House Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Mike McCaul in December opined that ‘those that are over our military sites are adversarial and most likely are coming from the People’s Republic of China’.
