Nostalgia hits the menu as York Steak House brings back classic Nancy's chicken dish
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A local restaurant that has tapped into the city's passion for nostalgia and comfort food has once again found success by offering fare from a bygone era.
In an all-caps social media post, York Steak House, at 4220 W. Broad St. in Columbus, announced it now serves Nancy’s chicken and noodles.
“YOU ASKED FOR IT YOU GOT IT,” the post read. “NANCYS CHICKEN AND NOODLES THE ORIGINAL CHICKEN AND NOODLES THAT EVERYONE FELL IN LOVE WITH. NOW AVAILABLE COME AND GET THEM.”
The dish, from the archives of the now-shuttered Nancy’s Home Cooking, has been selling out daily, according to the restaurant's follow-up posts. Customer reaction online has also been overwhelmingly positive.
“York Steak House is a great place,” noted one commenter. “Adding a memory from Nancy's is so nice.”
“The chicken and noodles with the green beans was terrific!!!,” offered another in a review. “Loved it!!! That will likely be my order every time at York! ”
The history behind how York's came to serve the special offering begins with its current owner, Tim Burkhammer, who acquired the meat and potatoes restaurant last July.
Burkhammer, who also owns Starliner Diner at 4121 Main St. in Hilliard, merged with Nancy’s Home Cooking in February 2024. To revive Nancy's, Starliner, which offers Cuban- and diner-style cuisine, announced on its social accounts that some of Nancy's beloved dishes would be available in addition to its regular menu. Now, the famous chicken and noodles creation has made its way to the restaurateur's Broad Street eatery.
Nancy's was located at 3133 N. High St. in Clintonville. Originally started by Nancy Kimmerling in 1968, the business was sold to Cindy King, who ran the restaurant for many years. King became ill in 2008, and the restaurant was taken over by King’s niece, Sheila Hahn. Her husband, Rick Hahn, owned the business after Sheila’s passing in November 2012, and moved it to Lynn Street in Columbus shortly before it closed in December 2020.
