1/27/2025: Mild temps today, but still windy
The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:
High pressure pushing in from the southwest will bring us mostly sunny conditions today, and temperatures will be able to warm to nearly 40 degrees!
Unfortunately, it won't feel quite that mild - we're caught between that high and an area of low pressure up to our north. That means it could get gusty and blustery at times. Additionally, that system will move in tonight, bringing clouds and snow showers. There's also another disturbance in northwestern Canada that will bring us another snow chance Wednesday!
So enjoy the sunny skies now while we've got them - again, highs in the mid to upper 30's might feel more like the upper 20's with the wind chill accounted for.
Snow develops after midnight tonight. While most of what we see will be fairly light, a few of us could see snow squalls - quick hitting, but intense bands of snow and wind that can quickly coat the roads and reduce visibility. Be careful during the early stages of the Tuesday morning commute!
We will clear out by late morning, but temperatures drop as wind shifts behind that system. Temperatures down around 20 in the afternoon will feel like the single digits or even below zero with that wind factored in.
The second storm system moves in Tuesday night, with on and off snow showers continuing into the day Wednesday.
Between these multiple rounds of snow, totals will range from 1-3" in the Capital District to a half foot or more in the western Adirondacks where winds coming off Lake Ontario will have contributed to more intense snowfall.
Dry and brighter, but cold and still breezy for Thursday with highs only in the mid 20's. Warmer temperatures on Friday mean that a system inbound for the second half of the day will produce both rain and snow showers.
Cooler and quieter for the first day of February on Saturday. More clouds and a few snow showers are possible for Groundhog Day on Sunday.
