To the editor: Tax error should not need appeal
According to The Blade on Jan. 19, there was a programming error in the software that determined the revaluations of 202,000 properties in the county. The direction to property owners is to file an appeal if they think they are entitled to a review of their property value. That should not be necessary. Every property owner is entitled to have their property reviewed, without filing an appeal. The company contracted to perform the work erred in their actions. They should be required to re-do all of it and send out the revised values to everyone without appeals being filed. The taxpayers are entitled to this. Lucas County needs to stop passing the buck on this issue. Go to the source of the problem and have them fix it without cost or effort from the citizens.
