Bruins Benefitting From David Pastrnak, Morgan Geekie’s Budding Chemistry
BOSTON — The Bruins found something between David Pastrnak and Morgan Geekie.
It’s hard to argue at this point, as the duo powered their club to a 3-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday — yet another example of their collective offensive dominance that has been on display this week.
Geekie scored twice in the contest, marking his third consecutive game with at least one goal. Pastrnak, who could probably develop chemistry with a broomstick at this point, added the cherry on top with an empty-net goal to seal the victory at TD Garden, all while assisting on those two earlier tallies we mentioned. The B’s have essentially gotten a third of their offense over the last two weeks from those two, which is just dandy because they’re now 5-1-1 across that stretch and firmly in position for a playoff spot.
“It’s clear they’ve developed some chemistry here in the last little while, they’re finding their spots offensively and reading off each other well,” Bruins interim head coach Joe Sacco said postgame. “Geekie’s doing a great job finishing his chances, and (Pastrnak) is playing pretty good hockey right now.”
More Bruins
Pastrnak, as we mentioned earlier, is expected to make everyone around him better. The Bruins made him the highest-paid player in team history for that exact reason, but if anyone knows how special it is when you’re able to get an entire line on the same page, it’s him.
“It’s clicking right now,” Pastrnak said on Saturday. “I think all three of us (along with Pavel Zacha) are connected, which is especially important on loose pucks because we’re closer together… We are connected, we’re close and we’re cooking together and we always know what to expect from one another. It’s always fun when you have chemistry with your linemates.”
Geekie, on the other hand, has exploded into this position, turning the corner after an extremely disappointing start to become one of the more integral components of the club’s postseason push. Boston needed literally anyone to provide a scoring spark, and the 26-year-old has now done that by nearly matching his goal total from last season in just half the games while playing next to Pastrnak.
How locked in is the duo? Pastrnak assisted on 10 of Geekie’s 15 goals in 2024-25.
“It’s growing, for sure,” Geekie said of the chemistry between him and Pastrnak. “We’ve played together for a while now, which is always easier when you learn the habits of the guys you’re playing with. It’s always fun to play with guys who have tons of skill — for me, I’m kind of in awe with some of the stuff he’s able to do with the puck. I just try to get open. It’s lots of fun right now, so just want to keep having fun..”
The Bruins are rolling thanks to the duo, and as we approach a long layoff and the trade deadline over the next six weeks, their goal is to continue producing so they can stick together.
Boston probably isn’t itching to mess with their mojo, though.
