Why Mookie Betts Still Enjoys Watching Current Red Sox Team
Mookie Betts got his start with the Boston Red Sox and put together a season to remember as American League MVP when the team took home the World Series title in 2018.
He became one of the game’s best players before several factors led to the 2020 trade that sent him and David Price to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Betts has thrived ever since with two more championships and sustained dominant play.
Betts earned a warm welcome back to Fenway Park with the Dodgers in 2023 when he returned to Boston for the first time since his last game with the Red Sox in 2019. He expressed his admiration for the franchise then and recently expressed what he still appreciates about the franchise.
“As quiet as it’s kept, I enjoy watching Red Sox games because of Cora,” Betts shared on the “All The Smoke” podcast. “I love Alex Cora. I enjoy watching Red Sox games. People think I hated it and didn’t want to be there and that was all a façade. It’s still business. Business is business. You have to be able to separate business from personal.”
Sports often make uncomfortable situations when personal relationships collide with business priorities. For Betts, it sounds like it’s still all love for the Red Sox.
