Sunday shows preview: Trump agenda takes form after whirlwind first few days in office
President Trump’s cabinet picks were readily ushered into the new administration after this week’s Senate confirmation hearings. Republicans showed their dominance in both legislative bodies by swiftly approving the president’s top nominees for national security posts in addition to immigration and border security measures.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth was narrowly confirmed due to an evenly split vote among lawmakers in the upper chamber warranting a tie-breaking ballot from Vice President Vance. The vice president may address his first time leading a tie-breaking vote in the Senate and his first full week in office during an appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”
CIA Director John Ratcliffe also faced an uphill battle with Democrats who worked to delay voting due to “serious concerns” about him.
Ratcliffe will likely recall the timeline including objections from Sen. Chis Murphy (D-Conn.) during an exclusive appearance on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures.”
Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) is also expected to join the show, during which he may address the logistics behind rocky confirmation votes and the journey ahead as GOP leaders prepare to introduce a reconciliation package.
The party has decided to zero in on three topics: energy, taxes and immigration. Tom Homan, Trump’s designated “border czar,” will address the latter during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week.”
He’s boasted about the administration’s actions against undocumented immigrants, touting heightened arrests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, deportation flight operations and other efforts to secure the nation’s southern border.
All of these topics and will likely be discussed on this week’s Sunday talk shows:
NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday”: Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.); Rep. Chris Deluzio (D-Pa.); Jaime Harrison – DNC Chairman
