Multi-agency nuclear incident training to be held in Capital Region
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Federal Bureau of Investigation's Albany branch announced an upcoming nuclear incident training exercise that will take place in Schenectady, Albany, and Saratoga Counties. The training is part of regularly scheduled exercises conducted by the federal government since 2012 and is not in response to any world events, FBI Albany confirmed on Saturday. The exercise will primarily take place at and around the Stratton Air National Guard Base, Albany International Airport, and portions of northern Saratoga County.
The training aims to bolster operational preparedness in the event of a nuclear incident in the U.S. or overseas. The following agencies will be involved in the exercise:
- Federal Bureau of Investigation

- Department of Defense
- Department of Energy
- Department of Homeland Security
- New York State Police
- Albany County Sheriff's Office

The exercise will also serve as training for the National Technical Nuclear Forensics Ground Collection Task Force. The Task Force would be responsible for supporting any incident investigation by collecting samples of nuclear debris for analysis.
