Macy's announces planned store closures, including locations in Ohio
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) - Macy's is planning on closing 150 stores across the country, including some locations in Ohio.
The company announced the upcoming closures in a news release on Jan. 9, noting the shutdowns are part of Macy's Bold New Chapter strategy, which was announced in 2024. Over the next three years, a total of 150 underperforming stores will shut down, with 66 locations confirmed.
Macy's said the closures come as the company has plans that will help the retailer return to "sustainable, profitable sales growth." During this period, the company is also investing in its 350 "go-forward" Macy's locations through 2026.
Two Ohio locations are part of the 66 closures including its retail stores at 2727 Fairfield Commons Blvd. in Beavercreek and 5001 Monroe St. in Toledo. As of now, there aren't any central Ohio locations listed in this round of closures.
The company did not say a date for when the confirmed locations will shut down or when the rest of the planned closures will be announced. Macy's is headquartered in New York and currently has 521 stores nationwide, according to the company website.
