20 Upstate Correctional Facility staff taken to hospital
MALONE, N.Y. (ABC22/FOX44) - Several staff members at Upstate Correctional Facility in Malone were taken to the hospital on Tuesday. The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) said that seven nurses, one office assistant, and 12 correction officers were taken to the hospital.
A DOCCS spokesperson said that all of those sent to the hospital had come in contact with an incarcerated individual being transported to an outside hospital. They said the individual became physically aggressive with staff and those who had come in contact with them began to feel lightheaded and started vomiting.
Hazmat was called but DOCCS said they did not find any known hazardous substances. All of the staff members affected have been released from the hospital and are not expected to remain out of work. The investigation is in its preliminary phase and is ongoing.
