Patriots Rumors: Update On Assistant After QB Coach Hire
Drake Maye will lean on new mentors in his second Patriots season.
New England reportedly hired Ashton Grant to be its new quarterbacks coach. There was a thought that assistants from the Jerod Mayo regime could be retained. However, according to MassLive’s Mark Daniels on Friday, T.C. McCartney won’t return to the Patriots. The 35-year-old exits along with former offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, whom he followed to Foxboro, Mass., from Cleveland.
McCartney and Van Pelt are among multiple other assistants who won’t return to the Patriots. That list includes offensive line coach Scott Peters, wide receivers coach Tyler Hughes, tight ends coach Bob Bickell, running backs coach Taylor Embree, assistant receivers coach Tiquan Underwood and offensive assistant Michael McCarthy
That means Maye will have a completely new offensive staff to work with led by Josh McDaniels. Maye credited Van Pelt and McCartney for his development in his rookie season, and he’ll entrust his sophomore season to New England’s new offensive coordinator and Grant.
New England continues to move quickly filling out McDaniels’ staff after reportedly hiring an Ohio State assistant Friday.
