Man United 'willing to exceed' offer for 20yo starlet, he is 'keen' to move to Old Trafford - report
Manchester United are poised to strengthen their squad in the final days of the transfer window.
Reports suggest they are in advanced talks with Italian side Lecce for their highly-rated wing-back Patrick Dorgu.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that United are ‘willing to exceed’ £25 million with a second bid for Dorgu.
The 20-year-old is also ‘keen on a move to Old Trafford if a club-to-club agreement can be reached’.
Lecce are adamant on their asking price of £34m to sanction the exit of the youngster.
Since joining from Nordsjaelland in 2022, Dorgu has made 43 appearances for Lecce.
He is capable of playing as either a left wing-back or right wing-back.
He has also earned four caps for the Denmark national team.
Manager Ruben Amorim prefers a 3-4-2-1 formation but lacks dynamic wing-backs in the current squad.
Diogo Dalot has filled in as the left wing-back, though he is better suited to the opposite flank.
Injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have prompted United to explore the transfer market for reinforcements.
Malacia is expected to leave the club this month on loan.
After spending 1.5 years on the sidelines, Malacia appears to be lacking both the pace and confidence needed to perform at the top level.
Amorim requires his wing-backs to be not only defensively solid but also provide an attacking edge.
Dorgu is a more offensively-minded option compared to other alternatives at United.
His tenacity and relentless work rate make him an ideal fit for Amorim’s high-octane style of football.
United must be cautious not to overpay for Dorgu, as he is still very young and will need time to adjust to the Premier League.
The club should aim to negotiate a deal for under £30m, or alternatively, consider re-signing Alvaro Fernandez.
Fernandez could be brought back for about half that amount due to their buy-back clause.
