Economic Impact Report | Concerts At Thomond Park & Virgin Media Park
Munster Rugby are pleased to present findings of an independent Economic Impact Assessment, commissioned by Repucon Consulting, relating to a series of concerts hosted by MCD Productions in Thomond Park, Limerick and Virgin Media Park, Cork, last year.
In 2024 nearly 200,000 music fans attended a programme of summer concerts at Thomond Park, Limerick and Virgin Media Park, Cork.
Over the weekend of 12th to 14th July 2024, more than 73,000 fans attended three concerts at Thomond Park.
Over a two-week period from 14th to 29th June 2024 more than 122,000 concert goers attended nine concerts at Virgin Media Park.
Repucon Consulting were commissioned to undertake an independent Economic Impact Assessment of the concerts including an assessment of the visitor impact generated in Limerick and Cork. The study builds on the economic impact assessments undertaken on Munster Rugby games in February and November 2024, to demonstrate the year round impact of the stadia and event activity.
The economic impact assessment undertaken in based on the expenditure of day and overnight visitors to Limerick and Cork. The assessment was development through analysis of primary data and secondary research.

Combined Impacts
The combined total economic impact of concerts in Limerick and Cork in 2024 was €25.7 million. 12 concerts were held in total which saw 195,700 concerts goers attend which included a €16.9 million total visitor/tourism impact.
21,000 accommodation bed-nights were generated between Limerick and Cork which includes 20,300 hotel bed-nights.
82,300 people attended these concerts outside of the host city/county.
Thomond Park Impacts
- €13.5 million total economic impact of the three concerts
- 73,330 total attendance
- €12.1 million total visitor/tourism impact generated by visitors to Limerick for Thomond Park concerts
- €8.8 million total direct expenditure generated by visitors to Limerick
- €10.2 million total direct expenditure by all concert goers (visitors and locals).
- 54,850 concerts goers from outside Limerick City & County
- 13,800 accomodation bed-nights generated for Limerick.
- 69% of attendees travelled from other Irish counties to the concerts.
Virgin Media Park Impacts
- €12.2 million total economic impact of the nine concerts
- 122,374 total attendance
- €4.8 million total visitor/tourism impact generated by visitors to Cork for Virgin Media Park concerts
- €3.5 million total direct expenditure generated by visitors to Cork
- €10.9 million total direct expenditure by all concert goers (visitors and locals)
- 27,350 concert goers from outside Cork City & County
- 7,300 accommodation bed-nights generated for Cork
- 21% of attendees travelled from other Irish counties to the concerts.
