25 Movies Turning 25 In 2025 (That’ll Make You Feel Old)

Picture this: it’s the year 2000, the GameCube was just released, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston got married, and you bought the cutest trucker hat to go with your velour Juicy tracksuit. *heavy reminiscing sighs*.

Times were so good! Fast forward 25 years and a ton has changed, some for worse and some for better. However you feel about 2025, just remember, you can always live in the year 2000 with streaming services providing you with all your nostalgic favorite movies! 2025 means that all of our favorite movies released in 2000 are celebrating their 25th anniversary. Here’s a list of 25 movies that turn 25 this year, just in case you wanted some inspiration and pseudo-time travel back to Y2K. 

Scream 3

Scream 3 has a 25th anniversary on February 4, making it obviously a fantastic Valentine’s Day watch! Scream 3 leaves Woodsboro and takes place in Hollywood where the fictional ‘Stab 3’ is being shot. Unfortunately for everyone, Ghostface is also allowed to travel out of Woodsboro and wreak havoc on the set. This forces the ultimate final girl, Sidney Prescott, out of hiding to discover who’s behind the mask this time. 

Erin Brockovich

Erin Brockovich was released on March 14, 2000, and is based on the true story of Erin Brockovich portrayed by Julia Roberts. The film follows a newly hired attorney who discovers some lost files in a real estate folder. These files lead Brockovich down a nasty journey of a cover-up about contaminated water in a local community that is making all of the residents sick. 

High Fidelity

A John Cusack great, High Fidelity celebrates its 25th anniversary on March 28th. High Fidelity is about Rob, a failing record store owner in Chicago, and how he must grapple with the reality of adulthood after his long-term girlfriend breaks up with him. The soundtrack and plot is amazing for anyone who has a deep appreciation for music, especially the old-fashioned way on vinyl. 

Final Destination

March 17, 2000 marks a new franchise of horror films with Final Destination releasing. Final Destination is 98 minutes of terror as it shows you every way that you could possibly die by just living your day-to-day life. After a teen experiences a premonition getting on a flight full of his classmates, he throws a tantrum and gets himself and 7 others off the plane moments before it blows up. After this, he discovers he has found the death design and works hard to save his friends- and himself – from imminent death. 

American Psycho

American Psycho is one of the top cult classic horror films and April 14 marks its 25 year anniversary. Christian Bale plays Patrick Bateman, a sociopath who fits into high society NYC by day but is a gruesome serial killer by night. You will simply never look at business cards the same after this movie. 

Love & Basketball

On April 16, 2000, Love & Basketball was released and it tugged on the heartstrings of every athlete ever. Two childhood friends who share a love for basketball grow up together and experience the ups and downs of falling in love, becoming professional athletes, and overcoming mental and physical setbacks. Its an against-all-odds type of love story that will make you think about love and work in terms of priorities. 

Gladiator

We got Gladiator II in late 2024, but the original Gladiator will be celebrating its 25th anniversary on May 5th. The story follows a former Roman General who is hellbent on revenge after a corrupt emperor has his family killed. Before he can exact that revenge, he is sold into slavery and must fight for his life in a stadium with thousands watching. 

Road Trip

Road Trip is a slapstick sex comedy that will be turning 25 on May 11. A group of friends travel from Ithaca, NY to Austin, TX to save one of their friend’s relationships. The object of their desire? A VHS tape that shows cheating escapades is being delivered right to the girlfriend of the man in the film. Big yikes.

Gone In 60 Seconds

The great Nicolas Cage gave us Gone In 60 Seconds on June 5, 2000, and we are still addicted (by we, I mean me). Cage stars as a car thief who is forced to boost 50 high-profile cars in order to save his brother’s life. He has to get his old thieving gang back together, featuring the very saucy-looking Angelina Jolie and the hilarious Will Patton. 

Shaft

Samuel L Jackson always delivers heat, even back on June 16, 2000, when Shaft was released. Shaft is a crime thriller that stars Jackson as John Shaft, an NYPD detective who is stopping at nothing to bring the heir of a real estate tycoon to justice after he commits a racially-driven murder. 

Chicken Run

Back on June 21, 2000, Chicken Run demanded us all to ask more of our situation and to not settle for what we were supposedly meant to do. This, of course, is delivered to us in a cute animated film from DreamWorks. In Chicken Run, a group of chickens are doomed to rinse and repeat their daily lives of just laying eggs until a confident and crazy rooster arrives in their coop and tries to teach them all to fly to freedom.

Me, Myself, & Irene

Jim Carrey can do no wrong now, and he did no wrong on June 23, 2000, when Me, Myself, & Irene hit theaters. Carrey plays Charlie, a helpful and amicable Rhode Island State Police Officer. Unfortunately for Charlie, he suffers from Split Personality Disorder and has no recollection or control over Hank, his alter-ego, when he runs out of his medication.

Scary Movie

The ultimate pop-culture parody film, Scary Movie, was released on July 7 25 years ago. The film boldly mocks and mimics all of pop culture’s most popular moments, movies, television, and music from the time. Many of its scenes are problematic and indicative of a very different time in society, but it’s still beloved by many. 

X-Men

The franchise of X-Men was started on July 14th back in 2000. Based on the comic books, X-Men follows a group of individuals who were born with a genetic mutation that turned them into superheroes when they hit puberty. Unfortunately for them, society doesn’t accept these individuals as superheroes and instead refers to them as “mutants”. The film follows the struggle for acceptance between humans and the so-called mutants. 

Bring It On

August 22, 2000 is the greatest day in pop culture history because that is when Bring It On was released. I will not be accepting any opinions of better films at this time, thank you. Bring It On is about the Rancho Carne Cheerleading team and their desire to win the national championship for their sixth year in a row. However, there are some bumps in the road as the cheer captain discovers the unethical world of choreography and must essentially start over and rebuild their reputation.

Remember The Titans

Quite possibly the greatest sports movie ever made will celebrate it’s 25th anniversary on September 23rd. Remember The Titans is based on a true story of a 1971 high school football team that is put to the test as school segregation ends and a formerly all-white school has to adapt to having black football players on their team. Remember The Titans is powerful, thought-provoking, and highly emotional. 

Almost Famous

Almost Famous will be 25 on September 13th, making journalists everywhere still envious that a 15-year-old kid got a gig writing for Rolling Stone magazine. The movie follows that 15-year-old as he is setting out to interview an up-and-coming band. Of course, rock star life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and the young man is in for more than he bargained for while touring with the band. 

Requiem For A Dream

Requiem For A Dream is a powerful depiction of addiction, loneliness, and acceptance that was released on October 27, 2000. Requiem For A Dream is the story of parallel lives that are linked together by Ellen Burstyn’s character, Sara. This film is as sad as it is beautiful, and will always be talked about when referencing its director Darren Aronofsky. 

Charlie’s Angels

Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Lui gave us quite the mashup when Charlie’s Angels was released on November 3, 2000. The story follows three highly skilled, highly intelligent private investigators as they track down a millionaire-to-be. This trio has all of the martial arts training, high-tech devices, and crazy disguises you could ever want and is based on the 1970s TV show of the same name. 

How The Grinch Stole Christmas

Jim Carrey was busy in 2000 because in addition to the previously mentioned Me, Myself & Irene, Carrey also had How The Grinch Stole Christmas released on November 17, 2000. How The Grinch Stole Christmas is the live-action tale of the Dr. Suess favorite. It follows the town of Whoville and how the menacing Grinch plans to steal everyone’s toys before Christmas morning. 

Dude, Where’s My Car?

Maybe not the most intelligent film to ever exist, but you can’t deny that Dude, Where’s My Car? isn’t entertaining. The film starring Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott is turning 25 on December 15 but still invokes a giggle or two out of watching it. Scott and Kutcher play two stoners who wake up after partying unable to find their car. So, of course, now they have to find it. It won’t be a regular journey though and we’ll get to see all their bumps in the road on their way to vehicular freedom. 

Miss Congeniality

On December 14, 2000, we learned that all we need is a light jacket for April 25th. Miss Congeniality is turning 25 and it is still a beloved rom-com that can cheer anyone up. Sandra Bullock plays FBI agent Gracie, a tomboy, who must go undercover as a super girly pageant queen to find a terrorist threatening to bomb the Miss United States pageant. 

Cast Away

Cast Away will celebrate its 25th anniversary on December 7 and the beloved Tom Hanks film is still easily enjoyed. After his plane crashes over Malaysia, FedEx executive Chuck is the sole survivor and must figure out how he can survive on a deserted island with just one friend, Wilson, a volleyball. 

O Brother, Where Art Thou?

O Brother, Where Art Thou? is a comedy-drama musical that takes place in the Deep South during the 1930s. A trio of escaped convicts are searching for buried treasure while being pursued by a relentless Sheriff. George Clooney, Tim Blake Nelson, and Jon Turturro are the convicted trio who will be celebrating their 25th anniversary on December 22nd. 

Emperor’s New Groove

December 10 is the 25th anniversary of Emperor’s New Groove and when my love for Yzma and Kronk developed. An arrogant Emperor Kuzco is transformed into a llama by the power-hungry Yzma. To make it home, Kuzco must reach out for help from a peasant named Pacha. It’s a cute journey of self-discovery with some hilarious one-liners and imagery.
