The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wednesday 22nd January) Chasing pack keep the pressure up
Good Morning. It's Wednesday 22nd January, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road
Chasing pack keep the pressure up
Sheffield Utd retook top spot in the Championship last night, coming from behind to beat Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.
Sunderland too kept the pressure up on the pacesetters, winning by a solitary goal at Pride Park, bringing them to within two pints of second placed Leeds. Burnley make the long arduous journey to bottom of the table Plymouth Argyle this evening hoping to narrow the gap between themselves and Sheffield Utd to two points.
Given Norwich's injury and suspension woes, Leeds are firm favourites to win tonight, and with another sell-out crowd behind them, should return to the top of the pile. There may be nineteen games left, but just like last season, we're looking at a four horse race- can Leeds keep their momentum going?
Blades make bold statement with Cannon capture
Sheffield Utd have won the race to sign Leicester City striker Tom Cannon in a deal worth £13m. The 22yo has already bagged 11 goals (from all competitions) for a poor Stoke side, struggling at the wrong end of the table.
He is joined by Southampton playmaker Ben Brereton Díaz, who returns to Bramall Lane, albeit on loan. Burnley have raised eyebrows by signing Oliver Sonne from Silkeborg, along with veteran pair Ashley Barnes and Jonjo Shelvey, whilst Sunderland have put together a £20m package for Roma midfielder Enzo le Fee.
All three are still actively pursuing new leads, whilst all remains quiet at Elland Road. Whether or not any of these players would improve the Leeds starting line-up is up for debate, but without at-least trying, we'll never find out! There are just 12 days remaining!
