Counterfeit money suspects arrested after police chase
AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A pair from Detroit were arrested as part of a counterfeit money business and a police chase. It took place around 7 p.m. on Jan. 15 in Montgomery County.
Amsterdam police called in the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office to help in the pursuit of a Jeep on the Thruway at the Fultonville exit. Police said the car was believed to have been involved in counterfeit money being used in the city of Amsterdam.
The Jeep intentionally struck a law enforcement vehicle twice before losing control and hitting a guardrail, police said.
Two people fled into a wooded area while the driver and another passenger remained in the vehicle. The driver and two passengers were quickly taken into custody. The fourth subject, identified as 24-year-old Javon Ragland, of Detroit, was taken into custody about an hour later.
Ragland was charged with obstructing governmental administration in the second degree. He was released on an appearance ticket.
The driver, identified as 34-year-old Omisha Matthews, of Detroit, was charged with criminal mischief in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree, and reckless driving. She was arraigned and sent to the Mongomery County Jail without bail. She was also held on a parole violation warrant from the state of Michigan. Matthews is on parole in Michigan on armed robbery and felony weapons possession charges.
The other two passengers are also from the Detroit area, and all are believed to be part of a traveling counterfeit ring.
