However, one woman shared the unique reason why she wants to cut ties with her bestie altogether, and people say they don’t blame her.
In a Reddit post, the unnamed user detailed the unusual situation she found herself in.
The now 21-year-old explained that she met her best friend when they were 18 and 16 respectively.
They met online during the Covid lockdown and went on to meet in-person at college when social distancing procedures ended.
Since then, the two friends have taken trips together and talk every day.
The Reddit user described their relationship as being “super close” and said they were there for each other “during our darkest moments.”
“I wouldn’t have hesitated to say she was one of the most important people in my life,” the poster wrote.
And while they had never met each other’s families, her friend had seen pictures of her parents and joked about finding hot.
“She’d mention that my dad was hot, or that she was having sex with my mom,” the Redditor recalled.
Thinking it was “all in good fun,” she’d laugh off the remarks about her parents, both aged in their 50s.
However, things took an unexpected turn when her parents sat her down with her two younger sisters to reveal they had opened up their marriage.
“Apparently they wanted us to meet their new partner, I thought it was weird, but whatever, it’s their life and as long as they’re happy I don’t really care,” she said.
But when the mystery woman came by for a visit, she realised it was her best friend.
“Obviously I’m shocked and horrified and tell them as much,” she explained.
“I very quickly started screaming at all three of them, which I feel was warranted.
“I asked them how this even happened, and my parents explained they met on a website where couples can look for thirds.”

It can refer to relationships where one person has multiple partners or spouses, or where all parties are in a relationship with each other, for example in a throuple.

The poster had been aware her friend was online dating but said she had “no clue it was anything like this.”
They revealed they had been sleeping with the 19-year-old for a couple of weeks and invited her to stay at their house for a week.
“When I asked where she was going to sleep, they said in their bedroom with them,” she continued.
“At this point I was so disgusted and angry I just left the house for the rest of the day.
“When I came back that night, everyone was in bed, and I’m 99% sure I heard them having sex, which made me want to vomit.”
