Judi Dench Says She Can't Go Out Alone Due to Vision Loss
Judi Dench is sharing a new update on her declining eyesight.
Over the past few years, the 90-year-old Oscar-winning actress has admitted she has had trouble working due to her eyesight worsening. Back in June 2024, Judi seemingly suggested that she has been forced to retire because of it.
In a new interview, Judi revealed that she is no longer able to attend events alone due to vision loss.
Keep reading to find out more…While chatting with Trinny Woodall on her Fearless podcast, Judi admitted that she was never a big fan of attending big red carpet events alone, but now she no longer has to.
As she joked that she has “no eyesight,” Judi explained, “Somebody will always be with me. I have to now because I can’t see and I will walk into something or fall over.”
“I’m always nervous before going to something. I have no idea why… I’m not good at being on my own at all, nor would I be now. And fortunately, I don’t have to now because I pretend to have no eyesight,” she said with a laugh.
Back in 2012, Judi was diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which is a disease that affects a person’s central vision, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Judi‘s last screen role was a cameo in 2022’s Spirited. Another star also announced their retirement from acting recently.
