Trump’s Triumph: America’s Golden Age Begins
It was an amazing sight to see.
Walking around the nation’s capital inaugural weekend as I did it was impossible to miss the optimism and enthusiasm that was everywhere one looked.
The trademark red MAGA hats were everywhere. Worn by smiling, laughing, men, women, and children alike. All of them bundled up against the seriously cold weather.
As someone who attended President Reagan’s 1985 inaugural, the cold brought back memories of that 1985 ceremony that was, like this week’s Trump ceremony, hastily moved indoors for the safety of the attendees.
That move, as in 1985, cut down drastically on the number of folks, ticketed or not, who could be squeezed underneath the Capitol Rotunda. All the ticketed thousands who had great seats on the Mall simply could not be crammed into the rotunda’s seemingly spacious but decidedly limited space.
But that didn’t dampen the high spirits everywhere in evidence.
By 7:00 p.m., the new President Trump was busily signing one executive order after another. Among other things, USA Today reported he had signed orders on the following:
- An electric vehicle mandate that “ended an Environmental Protection Agency rule that required auto manufacturers to cut greenhouse gas emissions by half in new light- and medium-duty vehicles beginning in 2027.”
- An order ending the Paris Climate Agreement, ramping up oil and gas production, leaving the World Health Organization, bringing the Tik Tok ban to a screeching halt, declaring a “national border emergency,” changing the name of Alaska’s Mt. Denali back to what it once was for years — Mt. McKinley (after long ago President William McKinley).
- In the same category of renaming, the Gulf of Mexico is now the Gulf of America. It is a sign of the crazy woke times that there was a felt Trump need supported by millions of Americans — to declare, shockingly! — that there are only two genders, male and female. The use of DEI — ‘diversity, equity, and inclusion’ — will vanish from the federal government. He has, also shockingly, “directed federal employees to return to in-person work.” (Imagine that. Federal workers have to show up for work!)
- As if all those weren’t controversial enough for the woke crowd, Trump pardoned some 1,600 Americans charged in the Jan. 6, 2021 events.
All of this, mind you, on day one.
It is safe to say that when Trump says all this is but the start of a new “Golden Age” for America, he isn’t kidding.
American history records that some presidents of the United States (although not all) have come along and brought with them serious change from the then-accepted way of doing business and running a country and the society that supports it.
Presidents with names like Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Calvin Coolidge, Franklin Roosevelt, JFK, LBJ, and Ronald Reagan stand out in history.
Without question, the new Trump Era is going to be one of those.
So. It has begun.
Buckle in — and enjoy.
