17y/o striking sensation training with Man Utd first-team, becoming increasingly familiar to Amorim
Manchester United youth striker Chido Obi-Martin has recently had some experience in first-team training sessions, according to the Daily Mail.
The 17-year-old Denmark youth international joined the Red Devils from Arsenal last summer after a promise of a clearer pathway to first-team football, and he has often been involved with the senior team at Carrington the day after games, where numbers in Ruben Amorim’s sessions are slightly depleted.
Obi-Martin caught the attention of Man United and everyone after bagging 32 goals in 20 under-18 Premier League appearances for the Gunners last season.
He became a social media sensation after notching 10 goals for Arsenal under-16s in a 14-3 win over their Liverpool counterparts in 2023, and he has been impressing for the Red Devils, grabbing a brace for their under-18s as they ran out 5-2 winners over Preston North End in the FA Youth Cup last Friday.
Despite his form at youth level, there are no immediate plans to accelerate him up the age groups.
Man United want to carefully manage his development, but his game is becoming increasingly familiar to Amorim and his staff as they get a closer look at him in recent training sessions.
He could soon be playing with the first-team if he keeps impressing at this rate, and it would not surprise many if the Portuguese head coach decides to hand him a chance after giving senior debuts to 27 players from the Sporting CP academy during his time as their manager.
The gulf in quality between youth football and senior football is huge, and whether Obi-Martin has what it takes to establish himself as a star for Man United remains to be seen.
16-year-old defender Godwill Kukonki has become a regular in the matchday squads of Man United since Amorim arrived, and the Dane forward will be desperate to emulate him and prove himself to the Red Devils boss.
