5 teenage boys arrested in Clark County for alleged 'series of burglaries'
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Clark County Sheriff's Office said the investigation into a "series of burglaries" resulted in them pursuing a suspect vehicle and eventually arresting five teen boys in connection with the crimes.
All five accused suspects were booked into the Juvenile Detention Hall in Vancouver. The two youngest suspects were both 14 years old. The other suspects were ages 15, 16 and 17, authorities said.
On Sunday, just after 11:30 p.m., the Clark County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a report of a burglary at the Shell Station on 4409 NE 78th St. in Vancouver. When deputies arrived, they checked the area but there were no suspects or vehicles. However, witnesses said they heard glass breaking and saw three or four people in masks with backpacks enter the store earlier that evening.
During the investigation, video showed four suspects entering the store after breaking the glass, officials said. Another witness also reported the suspects were associated with a small dark-colored SUV that had pulled into an adjacent industrial park.
About 20 minutes later, the sheriff's office said an alarm went off and notified dispatch of another incident at Wayside Market in Vancouver. Deputies responded to the scene and found a broken window but no suspects. However, the sheriff's office said the investigation indicated that multiple suspects entered the store and surveillance video showed a dark grey Subaru station wagon associated with them outside.
Several hours later, officials said police radio traffic indicated a grey Subaru was involved in a Skamania County burglary and that the vehicle was last seen headed back into Clark County on SR-14.
The suspect vehicle was located near Northeast 192nd Avenue by a Camas police officer. The officer attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle sped off, officials said. After that, the sheriff's office initiated a pursuit of the vehicle.
"The pursuit went north through Vancouver out into Clark County, and the vehicle was last seen heading north on SR-503 before briefly losing pursuing units. A CCSO deputy located the vehicle southbound on NE 152nd Avenue from NE 99th Street and continued the pursuit into a neighborhood when the vehicle stopped near NE 90th Street and NE 152nd Avenue. Five male suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot," the Clark County Sheriff's Office said in a press release.
One of the alleged suspects was arrested shortly after a foot pursuit. The other four allegedly ran into a nearby home.
Deputies then set up a search perimeter around the home, contacted a woman resident and eventually arrested all four of the remaining juvenile suspects "without incident," authorities said.
The sheriff's office said they are still investigating to see whether these incidents may be connected to more burglaries that happened in Clark County.
