Jonathan David transfer update as Tottenham lose Solanke to injury
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has just provided a big update on the future of Jonathan David and Tottenham’s chances of landing the Lille forward.
Who is Tottenham’s top striker target?
After Spurs were beaten to the loan signing of Randal Kolo Muani by Juventus, it has been unclear which forward the North London club have set their sights on next.
There is no doubt that the Lilywhites are in need of reinforcements up front, with Dominic Solanke’s latest injury making it an even bigger priority than it already was.
One man who continues to be heavily linked with a move to Spurs is Jonathan David, who is now into the final six months of his contract at Lille.
Update emerges on Spurs’ pursuit of Jonathan David
Dharmesh Sheth has now played down Spurs‘ chances of signing David this month, revealing that Ange Postecoglou‘s men have not taken any steps towards the 25-year-old.
The journalist explained that all indications are that the Canadian international is expected to leave Stade Pierre-Mauroy as a free agent at the end of this season.
Sheth told GiveMeSport: “There’s not been much noise from Tottenham with regard to Jonathan David. What my information is, about David himself, is that Lille won’t be doing any business on him in this transfer window.
“I think there’s an acceptance that he won’t be signing a new contract and he’ll leave for free in the summer. He might not even sign a pre-contract agreement with anyone. I think he just wants to assess all of his options in the summer.”
Will Spurs make a cheeky offer late in the window?
It is interesting that Lille do not seem to be particularly keen on drumming up interest in David this month and are prepared to lose him for free in the summer.
While the centre-forward is an extremely key player for Bruno Genesio’s side, the French club may be tempted if a sizable offer arrives for the player within the next two weeks.
Perhaps Spurs or another European side might test the waters with a cheeky bid in the final days of the window. However, a lot depends on the striker himself, who might prefer to move as a free agent as that is likely to fetch him a better contract at his next club.
