ONE BIG TAKEAWAY
BC was the only school in last year’s Beanpot that didn’t pick up a win during the tournament.
The Eagles weren’t going to be denied this time around.
BC facing Harvard was a mismatch on paper and it played out that way on the ice — quickly, too. The Eagles jumped all over the Crimson with three goals in a span of 7:04 in the first period. Julia Pellerin got it started with a wrister that trickled in off Ainsley Tuffy before Molly Jordan and Katie Pyne followed suit by finding the back of the net.
Harvard, which went to goalie Emily Davidson to start the second period, stabilized after the opening frame. But for a team which has scored three goals in a game once all season, the deficit was way too much to overcome.
Getting the Beanpot win and having it come at the home of the Boston Bruins had to feel good for BC. The win for the Eagles also prevented them from going winless at the Beanpot for two consecutive seasons, something they haven’t done since they failed to pick up a Beanpot win in three consecutive tournaments from 1988-90. That should bring a sigh of relief, too.
PLAY OF THE GAME
Jordan’s goal with 12:05 left in the first quarter was a thing of beauty. The Eagles maintained puck possession in the offensive zone before Kate Ham (two assists) found Jordan all alone. Jordan skated into the high slot and snipped the upper left corner for a 2-0 lead. It was Jordan’s seventh goal of the season, a strong output from the sophomore defenseman.
UP NEXT
BC returns to the ice Friday when they begin a home-and-home series with Providence on the road. Puck drop between the Eagles and Friars is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
Harvard will look to snap its five-game losing skid Friday when it takes on Colgate at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center. The start of that contest is set for 6 p.m.
