'Grinch-level': Trump administration slammed for yanking White House's Spanish website
Within moments of President Donald Trump taking office, the Spanish language version of the White House website, "La Casa Blanca," went dark — triggering outrage from commenters on social media.
The move, which comes despite Trump crediting some improvement among Hispanic voters with his election victory, mirrors one he made on the first day of his initial term in 2017. Former President Joe Biden immediately restored the site after he took office in 2021.
Initially, those trying to click a link to the Spanish language website were greeted with a stylized 404 Not Found error, with a button labeled "GO HOME" to return to the main page. On Tuesday, the button was updated to instead say "GO TO HOME PAGE," possibly because the White House realized the potential negative optics of Spanish speakers being told to "go home."
Regardless, the move triggered public notice — and furious backlash.
