Pro-Life Advocate Hopes Trump Will be Fully Pro-Life During His Second Term
Now that Donald Trump’s second term as president has begun, we can look forward to a more pro-life presidency than the last administration. Yet, we know that babies will still die because Trump is not 100% pro-life; he advocates for exceptions when it comes to abortion.
Regardless of whether those exceptions are related to the baby’s age or how she was created, we know that allowing any baby to die at the hands of an abortionist, an IVF technician, or via the abortion pill is bowing down to the pro-abortion agenda. A baby does not have less value because she was created during a one-night stand, in a petri dish, or during a violent act of rape. All babies have value and should be treated with equal dignity and respect. Never should we allow for exceptions, as they put more value on feelings than on the human being. Whether babies are wanted by their biological parents or created intentionally should not dictate if they should die or continue to live.
Maybe this attitude about exceptions comes from fear. Maybe it comes from ignorance. Maybe it comes from apathy. But it’s one we must work every day to combat as we teach the sanctity of life.

Judie Brown, president of American Life League, recently commented on Trump’s second term, saying, “We pray that he, like President Ronald Reagan before him, will see the error of his ways and choose to defend every innocent preborn child from the first moment of her conception onward. The ‘Proclamation of National Sanctity of Human Life Day’ was a beginning for Reagan; may it also be so for Trump.”
Ronald Reagan was once ignorant about the truth of abortion. In fact, as California governor, he even signed a law legalizing it—an act he said he greatly regretted.
A doctor and pro-life advocate named Mildred Fay Jefferson was instrumental in teaching Reagan the truth about abortion, and Reagan even went on to pen Abortion and the Conscience of the Nation, a document that urged Americans to learn about and understand the horror of abortion. This was a groundbreaking and courageous achievement for a sitting president.
And Reagan’s declaration that January 22, 1984, should be known as National Sanctity of Human Life Day set the stage for future presidents to continue a day when we would remember the millions of babies killed in abortions.
We pray that Trump has the courage to follow in the footsteps of Reagan and to forge his own path—a path where all babies are protected, not just some.
In many respects, Trump has helped promote a culture of life, and he was even the first sitting president to attend a March for Life. But those actions are not enough because babies will still die under his watch.
On January 18, 2021, Donald Trump wrote his own proclamation that stated, “Every human life is a gift to the world. Whether born or unborn, young or old, healthy or sick, every person is made in the holy image of God. The Almighty Creator gives unique talents, beautiful dreams, and a great purpose to every person. On National Sanctity of Human Life Day, we celebrate the wonder of human existence and renew our resolve to build a culture of life where every person of every age is protected, valued, and cherished.”
Were those words meant to simply appease pro-life people? Advocating for exceptions and allowing some babies to die by abortion is certainly not protecting and valuing people of “every age.”
Over the last several years, we have been told to “follow the science,” but ironically this does not seem to apply when it comes to the preborn baby. The science of embryology teaches that a human being begins the moment the sperm fertilizes the egg, and we see this growth illustrated in the Carnegie Stages of Human Embryonic Development—the 23 stages of the embryo.
This is the undeniable truth about a preborn baby. He is alive. He is growing. He is someone’s child. And regardless of his stage or how he was created, killing him is wrong.
As the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, “Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law.”
So as we embark on this new presidential journey, let us never forget that Reagan once said that “abortion has denied [babies] the first and most basic of human rights, and we are infinitely poorer for their loss. We are poorer not simply for lives not led and for contributions not made, but also for the erosion of our sense of the worth and dignity of every individual. To diminish the value of one category of human life is to diminish us all.”
While many in our society are callous, uncaring, selfish, and scream for the right to mercilessly take the life of a defenseless baby, there are countless others who are simply ignorant. They don’t know the baby is a human being. They don’t know her value. They have never been taught these truths. It is incumbent on each of us to speak these truths. But we cannot do it alone.
That is why we need a strong leader to live these truths and to courageously stand up for the right to life of all human beings. Let us pray that Trump becomes that leader. Let us pray that he comes to understand the value of every preborn baby. And let us pray that he truly believes the words in his proclamation and will act upon them. Tiny lives depend on it.
