Girl, 4, shot dead while sleeping in home east of Columbus
BLACKLICK, Ohio (WCMH) – A 4-year-old girl is dead after a home was shot at early Tuesday.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on Beardsley Avenue near Blacklick after reports of a targeted shooting. The shooting occurred at the Jefferson Township home around 4:30 a.m.
The sheriff’s office said it was a drive-by shooting and that it was not random.
The child was reportedly sleeping upstairs when she was shot. The girl was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 5:44 a.m.
Surveillance video from neighboring homes caught a glimpse of a dark-colored vehicle that parked on the street before two individuals got out and walked out of frame. Approximately 25 seconds later the two individuals returned to the vehicle and flee the scene.
Deputies said other people were in the home but did not report any additional injuries. They also said no one is in custody and that the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting their efforts.
