KXAN monitoring utilities and 311 amid winter weather
AUSTIN (KXAN) – KXAN is monitoring Austin’s water and power utilities amid ongoing winter weather conditions. We have reached out to Austin Energy, Austin Water and 311 for updates on services and will update this report as information becomes available.
Overall, city services appeared to be running smoothly Tuesday at midday.
Austin Energy
"Austin Energy reports normal operations at this time with no major power outages as a result of inclement weather. Customers can report outages at AustinEnergy.com/Outages," according to a city news release.
Austin Energy’s outage map showed few power disruptions throughout the city Tuesday morning. That’s a departure from Feb. 2023 when an ice storm caused tree limbs, and whole trees, to break and tear down power lines. Roughly a third of Austin Energy's customers lost power during that event.
Austin Water
Aside from a couple water main breaks, Austin Water did not report any major issues Tuesday morning caused by winter weather. You can check Austin Water's outage and leak map here.
Austin 3-1-1
Austin 311 phone lines were up and running, and operators were quickly answering calls from customers in need of service on Tuesday morning. 311 also has an app and online services available here.
There hasn't been a marked increase in calls today, according to a 311 spokesperson. The majority of calls have been for "cold road conditions/ice on the roads and water main breaks, Austin Police Department, garbage collection, city department closures, and Austin Public Health resources, animal services and proper care, accidents, and 9-1-1 wellness checks," according to a 311 spokesperson.
"Residents needing assistance with cold weather issues, or other city-related issues should visit austintexas.gov/alerts or call Austin 3-1-1 by dialing 3-1-1 or 512-974-2000 for assistance or information," a 311 spokesperson told KXAN.
KXAN will update this report as more information from utilities becomes available.
