11 events in NYC to celebrate Lunar New Year 2025
NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Lunar New Year celebrations have already kicked off in New York City, offering locals a chance to enjoy delicious food and catch lion and dragon dances through February.
Lunar New Year kicks off on Jan. 29, marking the start of the year of the snake. Celebrations will span multiple weeks, meaning there are plenty of opportunities to catch events in New York City.
Here are some events to help you celebrate Lunar New Year 2025:
- Leland Eating & Drinking House will have a special brunch, lunch and dinner menu from Jan. 27 - Feb. 2. The restaurant will be decorated in red lanterns and guests will receive a lai see.
- Lunar New Year at the Seaport Museum: On Feb. 1, the museum will host a celebration with Chinese Calligraphy Workshops and a Chinese Lion Chain craft.
- Lincoln Center will put on free performances from the Korean Traditional Music & Dance Center, a Lion Dance performance on Josie Robertson Plaza and food. The celebration is on Feb. 1.
- PLATFORM at Pier 57 will do a Lunar New Year hot pot event with chef Natasha Pickowicz and food from Ming River.
- Manhattan’s Lunar New Year parade will take place on Feb. 16. It will run through Chinatown starting on Mott Street at Hester and then east on East Broadway and up Forsyth to Grand Street.
- Ace Hotel Brooklyn is hosting a Lunar New Year Mahjong Night on Jan. 31 from 7 to 11 p.m.
- Brooklyn Museum Lunar New Year celebrations start on Jan. 26 with a performance by the Chinese Freemasons Athletic Club at 3 p.m. Free museum admission is included from 2-4 p.m.
- Queens Botanical Garden will host a free celebration on Feb. 8 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a lion dance, tai chi, crafts, story time and more.
- Hudson Yards has already kicked off its Lunar New Year celebrations, which will last through Feb. 9. Celebrations include traditional lion and ribbon dance performances from The New York Chinese Cultural Center.
- New York City Council will host its Lunar New Year celebration on Jan. 27 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall’s Council Chambers.
- New York Chinese Cultural Center on Feb. 8 at 3 p.m. will host a free Lunar New Year celebration including a performance.
