NYC issues 2,885 summonses related to snow removal
NEW YORK (PIX11) – Thousands of New York City property owners were cited for not clearing their sidewalks on Monday after the snowstorm.
The New York City Department of Sanitation issued a Snow Alert on Sunday and Monday. Parts of the city received more than 3 inches of snow.
DSNY salted and plowed through every neighborhood. However, some New Yorkers did not do their own snow removal, as required by the city.
Some 2,885 summonses for failure to clear snow and ice were issued, a DSNY spokesperson told PIX11 News on Tuesday.
“According to the NYC Administrative Code, every owner, lessee, tenant, occupant or other person having charge of any lot or building must clean snow and ice from the sidewalks adjacent (i.e., in front of, on the side of, in back of) to their properties,” the DSNY website states.
