Supply, food drives to benefit homeless women, children in Albany and food bank
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Albany County Legislative Black Caucus and the Legislative Women’s Caucus are teaming up for the seventh annual Dr. Martin Luther King Food Drive and a women and children supplies drive. The donation drives began on Monday.
These organizations are collecting non-perishable food items, feminine hygiene products, infant formula, diapers, cleaning supplies, toiletries, and financial support. The food and monetary donations will go toward the Northeastern Regional Food Bank and the supplies will go toward the Albany County Sheriff's Homeless Improvement Program (SHIP).
SHIP recently opened a new wing for homeless women and their children. The decommissioned jail housing unit was made into transitional housing to help homeless people get back on their feet.
Both drives have shared drop-off locations in Albany. Donations are being accepted until February 18.
