Paris bronze medalist Jones signs with Matchroom
Team USA’s Omari Jones signed with Matchroom Boxing after claiming bronze at the 2024 Olympics
Team USA’s lone medalist at the 2024 Olympics, 22-year-old Omari Jones, has signed with Eddie Haern’s Matchroom Boxing ahead of a pro debut to be announced tomorrow.
“I am happy to announce that I am turning pro with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom,” said Jones. “I chose Eddie because he came to meet with me in Paris after my last fight in the Olympics and I understood how serious he was about my making a superstar and global star. I also want to stay busy, and I feel that Matchroom and Eddie Hearn is the perfect fit for that.
“My goals in the professional game in 2025 is to stay active, and win. Long term, I would like to become World champion, be mentioned amongst the greats and fight the best of the best”
Jones rode a bye into Paris’ welterweight Round of 16, where he took out Kan Chia-wei before securing a medal with another shutout decision over Rami Mofid Kiwan. Then came eventual gold medalist Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev, who banked the first two rounds on three judges’ scorecards to send Jones home via split decision.
He definitely looks like a quality talent, so hopefully this partnership will work out for him.
Matchroom previously signed another noteworthy medalist in Teremoana Teremoana this past November, while Boxxer claimed Refugee Olympic Team sensation Cindy Ngamba earlier today. It’ll definitely be interesting to see who wins the draft at the end of it all.
