NFL Exec Predicts Patriots Will Make Massive Trade For Wideout
It’s been a decade since the Patriots found a game-changing receiver in the draft. New England also wasn’t able to sign a star wideout in free agency in recent years despite considerable offers.
So, why not try to acquire such a player through trade?
That’s what one NFL executive believes the Patriots will do in their first offseason under new head coach Mike Vrabel. In a conversation with ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, a “veteran NFC personnel man” predicted New England will swing a deal for Tyreek Hill, who effectively asked out of Miami after the Dolphins’ season finale.
“The Patriots are desperate. They need a guy, that alpha that can be friendly for Drake Maye,” the anonymous exec told Fowler. “And there’s a higher chance of the draft picks (Miami would receive in a trade) being higher than with a contender.”
What would New England have to fork over to Miami to acquire Hill? Fowler believes “a package including a Day 2 pick would get a trade done” for the eight-time Pro Bowl selection who was 41 yards shy of his fifth consecutive season with 1,000-plus receiving yards.
New England, which has four draft picks inside the top 80 of the 2025 NFL Draft, has the resources to facilitate a Hill blockbuster. But with so many other needs in Foxboro, Mass., Vrabel and company will need to decide if giving away multiple key assets for one player — albeit terrific — is worth it.
