Turkish media reported that at least 10 people were killed and 32 others injured as a result of a fire at a hotel called “Grand Kartal” in the northwest of the country.
According to reports, the fire occurred around dawn on Tuesday, January 21, at the “Grand Kartal” hotel, located in the ski resort town of Bolu, in the “Kartalkaya” region.
Ali Yerlikaya, the Interior Minister of Turkey, has confirmed the deaths of 10 people and the injuries of 32 others in this incident.
So far, no further details have been provided about the exact cause of the fire.
According to Turkish officials, the fire has been partially controlled, and firefighting teams, emergency services, and medical helicopters have been dispatched from surrounding areas to the scene of the incident.
Additionally, Abdulaziz Aydın, the governor of Bolu, emphasized that the injured individuals have been transferred to hospitals, with the condition of two of them being critical.
Local media reports indicate that about 237 people were staying at the hotel during the fire.
It is worth noting that this region is considered one of Turkey’s popular tourist destinations in the northwest, and the hotel is located in the mountains about 170 kilometers from Ankara, the capital of Turkey.
The incident has sparked widespread concern, particularly because of the number of casualties and injuries. Investigations are expected to continue in the coming days to determine the cause of the fire, and to ensure the safety measures in similar establishments across the country.
In the aftermath, there will likely be discussions around improving fire safety protocols, especially in areas that host large numbers of tourists. Local authorities are under pressure to address any potential lapses in safety that may have contributed to such a tragic event.
