Are Manchester City back?

The form table certainly suggests they are after a terrific run of four victories in their last five, scoring a whopping 22 goals and registering three clean sheets.

The Cityzens have propelled themselves back up to fourth position in the Premier League table with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden showing a renewed vigour.

However, the quality of opposition is debatable given their wins have come against Leicester, West Ham, Salford and Ipswich Town.

A visit to French champions PSG should give us a better indication of where Pep Guardiola’s side are really at following that dismal run of one victory in 13 games.

It’ll also show us how they operate under pressure. And this is indeed a hugely pressurising match for both sides.

Paris Saint-Germain are currently housed outside of the top 24 in the league phase standings and will be desperate to avoid an embarrassing fall at the first hurdle with only two matches left to spare their blushes.

City are in slightly better shape in 22nd position but will need to pick up points in France or against Club Brugge in their final fixture to reach the next stage.

It’s looking good for Luis Enrique on the domestic front, boasting a nine-point advantage at the top of Ligue 1 with the French Super Cup already in the bag.

They are enjoying an eight-game winning streak, but they are clearly struggling at the elite level having lost three of their last five Champions League home matches (W1 D1), as many as in their previous 17 games at the Parc des Princes.

They’ve also only won one of their seven matches against Manchester City in European competition.

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has been magnificent for the club recently, scoring back-to-back braces and providing two assists in his last three outings.

In City’s last two Premier League games, Foden ranks top for most goals scored, goal attempts, penalty area touches and minutes per shot. He’s also created five chances for his colleagues and ranks fourth for xA (expected assists).

Home scorer

Ousmane Dembele looks a safe bet to score the opener for Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

The Frenchman, 27, should return from a brief illness to make the starting XI. He’s netted 11 times in 22 appearances for PSG this season – seven of those coming at the Parc des Princes.

He’s one of only two PSG players to have scored double figures in the 2024-25 season, the other being Bradley Barcola, but it’s Dembele who has the added bonus of penalties.
