Bastrop residents, businesses prepare for winter storm
BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) -- Our First Warning Weather Team’s snow/sleet accumulation forecast brings snow/sleet amounts near 1 inch along I-35 with lesser amounts in the Hill Country and higher amounts to the east.
Bastrop is among the areas expecting to get those higher amounts. Because of that, some started winterizing their homes and businesses to prepare.
Theodosios Syrpis took the necessary precautions at his wife's store, Silver Creek Collections, by dripping the faucets.
"We did have a cold snap three years ago, I was informed, and the pipes did rupture," Syrpis said. "You tend to be a little more cautious when these kind of temperatures come around."
Syrpis said they will close the store on Tuesday to be safe.
Snow preparations were also underway at Buccee's. A worker there was salting the sidewalks and parking lot on Monday.
Customer Wylie Weeks made a pit stop there on his way from Giddings to Austin. Weeks said he made sure to have enough charge for his car to get him back home in time before the snow.
"I'm watching the weather as I drive," Weeks said. "If it's horrible, I'll turn around."
