Flags ordered to fly at full-staff in Kansas on Monday, here's why
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has ordered flags to be brought back up to full-staff on Monday following an announcement from President Donald Trump.
Kelly announced that flags across Kansas are to be flown at full-staff for the rest of Jan. 20. This decision was made following a proclamation from Trump that flags are to fly at full-staff on Inauguration Day.
"Accordingly, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at full-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government, in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions, for the remainder of this day beginning immediately."
President Donald Trump flag order proclamation excerpt
A spokeswoman for Kelly's office told 27 News last week that an earlier flag order for Kansas, requiring flags to fly at half-staff in honor of former President Jimmy Carter, would remain in effect for Jan. 20 as Trump entered the White House for his second term.
Flags are to return to their half-staff position in Kanas at sunrise on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and remain in this position until sunset on Jan. 28, 2025.
