Tiktok returns to the US after 12-hours ban on Trump’s order
The video-sharing platform TikTok, while expressing gratitude to Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States, announced that it has resumed operations in the country.
Reuters reported on Monday, January 20, that the platform has restarted its activities in the United States.
Trump stated that he would allow TikTok to resume its operations in the country.
He emphasized that this decision would be implemented following the inauguration on Monday.
In a welcome message sent by TikTok to its users in the United States, the platform stated: “We appreciate your patience and support. Thanks to President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in America!”
Earlier, Trump announced on his social media platform, “Truth Social,” that he intended to give the Chinese-owned platform more time to find an approved buyer before fully enforcing a ban on its operations in the United States. This announcement coincided with the first day of his presidency (Monday, January 20).
Meanwhile, several American users reported that they were able to access the platform’s services again.
TikTok has over 170 million users in the United States.
It is worth noting that TikTok’s operations in the U.S. were halted for several hours due to a Supreme Court ruling.
The resumption of TikTok’s activities in the United States marks a significant moment for its large user base and highlights the platform’s ability to navigate legal and political challenges. This decision ensures continued access to a platform widely popular among Americans.
TikTok’s return reflects the importance of balancing national security concerns with digital innovation and free expression. Moving forward, it will be crucial for TikTok to adhere to regulatory requirements to maintain its presence in the U.S. market.
