Three Man Utd Academy stars most likely to debut under Ruben Amorim this season - view
Manchester United are facing a deeply frustrating 2024/25 season.
Glimmers of hope against Liverpool and Arsenal now seem like distant memories.
Manager Ruben Amorim has the luxury of an almost fully fit squad, yet numerous issues persist within the club.
The players must shoulder their share of the blame, having repeatedly let down managers over the years.
Simply put, the current squad lacks the necessary quality.
Prioritising the raw ambition and hunger of youth could be the club’s best option moving forward.
Here we look at three United academy starlets who can make their senior debut before the end of this season.
Godwill Kukonki
Kunkonki is an obvious name in our list after being a part of the squad for multiple times under Amorim.
The 16-year-old is a solid left-footed defender with the potential to excel in the left centre-back role.
Having been with the club since the age of five, Kunkonki understands the weight and responsibility of wearing the club’s colours.
He has showcased excellent performances for the United under-18s and is already a regular for the under-21s.
Kunkonki could gradually earn valuable first-team minutes, potentially stepping in as a substitute for Lisandro Martinez.
Harry Amass
It has come as a surprise to many that Amass has yet to make his senior debut.
With the injury problems of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, Amass had a clear pathway to the first team.
He impressed greatly in the pre-season tour to the United States.
However, Erik ten Hag felt Amass wasn’t yet ready to cope with the physical demands of top-flight football.
Even with Diogo Dalot struggling in the left wing-back role, Amorim has not placed his trust in the 17-year-old.
Amass is currently linked with a loan move for the remainder of the season.
If United fail to find a club that can promise him regular minutes, we may see Amorim use him as an emergency wing-back option.
Chido Obi-Martin
Obi-Martin is considered a generational talent and destined for superstardom in the world of football.
United wasted no time in snapping him up from Arsenal during the summer.
In just 250 minutes of action in the Under-18 Premier League, he has already netted five goals and provided one assist, showcasing his clinical ability.
His recent brace against Preston North End in the FA Youth Cup has only added to the buzz surrounding his name.
With United’s strikers struggling to find the back of the net, Amorim must seize the opportunity to give Obi-Martin a chance to shine at the senior level.
