AUSTIN (KXAN) — No. 5 Florida outscored Texas 47-30 in the second half to run away with an 84-60 win in Southeastern Conference men's basketball action Saturday at the Stephen O'Connell Center in Gainesville, Florida.
The Gators shot 58% in the second half, connecting on 18 of 31 field goal attempts including 5 of 9 from 3-point range. Texas was 10-for-27 from the field in the second half and 2-for-10 from 3-point range.
Tre Johnson led the Longhorns with 16 points on 6 of 15 shooting while Arthur Kaluma and Ze'Rik Onyema both notched double-doubles. Onyema scored 12 points with 10 rebounds while Kaluma chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds. Florida still outrebounded Texas 41-33, however.
Florida scored 44 points in the paint to Texas' 20 and the Gators racked up 16 assists while the Longhorns had eight. The Gators scored 58% of their possessions while the Longhorns scored at a 42% clip.
Florida's Alijah Martin led all scorers with 22 points on 8 of 16 shooting. Walter Clayton Jr., scored 19 points and Alex Condon posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Texas (12-6, 1-4 SEC) trailed 37-30 at halftime. The Longhorns host Missouri on Tuesday in SEC play. The Tigers beat the Gators 83-82 Jan. 14 in Gainesville.
Florida (16-2, 3-2) hits the road Wednesday to face South Carolina.
