Brunswick hardware store preps for Sunday snow
BRUNSWICK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- With snowy skies expected on Sunday, Capital Region residents are already preparing for the snow by gathering supplies. One hardware store in Brunswick shares the best tips and recommendations for residents as they prepare.
“It's been very busy today, actually people are getting ready, you can tell when it's going to snow, those who know they come in and they get ready," said Scott Ross, assistant manager of Hatchet Hardware of Brunswick.
NEWS10'S Weather Team is forecasting residents will see anywhere from about four to eight inches of snow on Sunday. Plus cold temperatures that community members said they want to be prepared for.
“They say we’re going to get that 30 below zero weather coming down from the Arctic and North Pole. You got to be ready with your wood stove," said Brien Washburn, a Grafton resident who was shopping at Hatchet Hardware of Brunswick.
Other customers were gathering supplies and tools out of precaution.
“I'm getting a snow shovel because the other ones cracked," said Ari Ginsburg, a Troy resident.
"Probably some rock salt for the driveway," said Nick Teta.
Scott Ross said the store has sold two snow blowers today and three this week. However, he believes there are some things people forget about when it comes to snow.
“They don’t think about getting stuck so always make sure your gas tank is full and like I said it doesn't hurt to have a bag of sand in the back of your car," said Ross. "If you lose traction or you can't get out, you put a little sand behind them it gives you a little grip to back up and gets you out of a tight spot."
Ross even recommends an entire emergency kit including an emergency shovel, flashlight, emergency reflective blanket and more.
“It’s never a bad idea to make a safety kit and put a safety horn," said Ross. "Here's a First Aid Kit that’s a real favorite of mine because its real visible so if you’re looking through a dark car at night you can just see it right away."
Hatchet Hardware has also been selling generators and emergency heaters this month, according to Ross. Even weather gear such as hats, gloves and scarves are important for snow preparation, Ross said. With all of this equipment, Ross said the store is ready for anything.
"We're always ready for our community," said Ross.
Hatchet Hardware of Brunswick will also be open Sunday until 5 p.m. for anyone who still needs supplies. Stick with NEWS10 for the latest weather updates.
