New Everton owners set to overhaul transfer team with Atalanta guru targeted and two set to be sacked
EVERTON transfer supremo Kevin Thelwell and chief scout Dan Purdy face the chop from the new American owners.
Thelwell has been director of football for the past three years and played a part in David Moyes’ appointment to replace Sean Dyche.
Head of scouting Purdy has held a number of roles in more than a decade at Goodison Park.
The pair, whose contracts are up at the end of the season, had to work within financial constraints before new owners were found.
Having made the decision to sack Dyche, the Americans are keen to reshape the operation and Moyes could have a major say.
David Weir, who is technical director at Brighton, has been linked with a return to a club where he spent eight years as a player.
Atalanta senior scout Mick Doherty is a more likely option — ironically he is the brains behind the Serie A club’s attempts to sign Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Moyes worked with Doherty during his first spell at Everton and second stint at West Ham.
New Toffees coach Billy McKinlay was in the frame to be West Brom manager before Tony Mowbray got the job.
McKinlay, who had a brief spell as Watford boss, jumped at the chance to rejoin Moyes again, having been on his West Ham staff.

Moyes took charge of his first Toffees match since returning to the club on Wednesday.
But it was not a dream return to Goodison Park as Aston Villa ran out 1-0 winners.
Everton are back in action today and take on Tottenham Hotspur at home.
Speaking ahead of the game, Moyes admitted that the club are looking at a potential move for Lyon and Ghana winger Ernest Nuamah.
He said “He’s a player who I know we’ve been looking at, but I couldn’t say to you it’s done or it’s under way.
“At the moment we’re looking at some players, and he’s one of them, and hopefully we can get somebody before the end of the transfer window.”
