Barry Keoghan made some rare comments about being a dad and how it helped him understand his parents better after growing up in foster care.

While filming a video for United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, Barry reflected on his situation growing up and how fatherhood has changed his perspective.

“As I’ve got older and I had my own son, I realized that it was such hard work for her and, you know, her and my father. And luckily there was a good care system there, which is massively important,” he said.
After losing his mother, Barry before he was a teenager, Barry was in 13 different foster homes.
He participated in the video to use his profile to raise awareness about the experience.
“Anything to do with kids and care, I’m always wanting to help,” he explained. “And shine a light on it, and get attention to it.”
In a recent interview, Barry said that he struggled with “trust issues” after his experience in foster care. He also recently addressed people who call him a “deadbeat dad.”
