Chiefs bettors suffered a horrific bad beat on intentional safety
If you had the Kansas City Chiefs to cover the opening spread at -9.5 points, let me just say: I feel so sorry for you. And if you thought Kansas City would end up delivering anyway in a roller-coaster finish, I only feel more pity for your betting ambitions.
Let’s take it to the end of the fourth quarter.
With the Houston Texans trying to mount a late (unlikely) rally, Texans kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn had his kick blocked by the Chiefs’ special teams unit. This was music to the ears of Chiefs bettors sweating the spread with an almost impossible late cover.

Unfortunately, the Chiefs were not game to reward bettors who had them covering at -9.5 at all costs. After all, they were trying to secure another playoff win and yet another berth in the AFC title game.
And that takes precedent over covering the spread.
So, when the Chiefs got the ball back after the blocked kick, Patrick Mahomes took a couple of knees, and punter Matt Araiza followed it by taking an intentional safety through the back of the end zone to run more clock:

Oh, man. Talk about getting put through the wringer, experiencing every emotion, and then losing it all on a team’s game management decision.
Godspeed, Chiefs spread bettors. I hope you have a better rest of your weekend.
