Scott: We Need to Make Some New History
Hibs Women, Head Coach Grant Scott anticipates an eventful cup tie against Aberdeen as we look towards the Sky Sports Cup Semi-Final on Sunday.
Hibs are one step away from reaching the final of the competition after beating Partick Thistle 4-1 at Petershill Park in November. Winning against Dundee United 5-0 away from home earlier this week in the SWPL, Scott said he will make some rotations but will go into the semi-final with great optimism.
“We’ll be light on the pitch in the next few days, dropping in some details on how we think Aberdeen will set up.”
“The girls have been playing some really good football lately. Credit to the players for going to a venue where last season we dropped points (Foundation Park), coming away with a five-nil win. I thought we looked a little flat – the girls should be positive about the result.”
‘We’re scoring goals, keeping clean sheets; that’s a great recipe for winning matches. Hopefully, we can replicate that at the weekend.”
A win against Aberdeen would mean a record 13th appearance in the League Cup final. Reflecting on his past successes, which includes lifting the League Cup twice in 2018 and 2019 – as well as the wider history of the club, Scott affirmed his message to the players ahead of Sunday’s match.
“The history is an important part of this club. I remind the players a lot about where this club has come from and our successes in the past.”
“The challenges today are more difficult. We take nothing for granted, but history is one thing. We need to make some new history now. This group is more than capable.”
Speaking to the fans directly, the Head Coach said he hopes the support from all across the capital would cheer the team on from Meadowbank come kick-off on Sunday
“We’re fortunate to have a really good loyal support that travels with us everywhere. The more noise they can make, it’ll spur the girls on.
“We’ll be looking to provide entertainment on the pitch, and ideally a victory they can celebrate after!”
